About my approach
Mobile Autologous Serum Tears service to provide help to patients in need of extra healing for such conditions as severe dry eyes, pre and post cornea surgery, Ocular Cicatricial Pemphigoid, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Sjogren’s Syndrome, Meibomian Gland Dysfunction and so many more ocular surface diseases.
Patient Care
My mobile services are meant to cut down on in-office staffing shortages (reduce patient loss to another clinic offering in-house serum tears), provide home visits to patients not willing or able to spend extra time in office, offer personalized counseling to patients who need more extensive explanations, and to ensure patient retention and satisfaction with the providing doctors.
Two service options
Preservative free serum tears
Preservative free serum tears mixed with sterile saline at 33% to 50% serum solution, for patients with preservative sensitivities and/or allergies. With this option, I provide a 6-month supply (25 bottles) to patients for use at one-week intervals (4 x daily in both eyes), as suggested by the “big name” clinical studies done in places such as Johns Hopkins, Mayo, Cleveland Eye and Wills Eye clinics. Prices will vary but are very affordable!
Artificial Tears
Serum tears to be used at 30-day intervals, made with the artificial tears product of your physicians choice, (with preservatives), and each bottle meant to last 1 month (at 4 x daily in both eyes). The cost of this service is dependent on the amount each patient wishes to purchase. Maximum 6 mo. supply made at each draw to ensure efficacy. Pricing varies but is almost always more affordable than pharmacy copays for chemically manufactured therapies with intolerable or uncomfortable side effects.

The patients on clinical studies with the above-named facilities showed 80-90% success rate after 90 days in patients who followed direction and stuck to the program. I have over 100 clients on board for several years who state serum tears are the only thing that help their symptoms.

The equipment is my own, and supplies are in my arsenal. I bring to the table over 28 years of ophthalmic assisting experience with an emphasis on dry eye therapy, phlebotomy and lab training from MA school (1993) and IV therapy certification from EMT school (2005). I have worked with cornea/cataract and glaucoma specialists for the bulk of my career and have been very attentive to the suggestions they give to treat these special cases. I have a passion for this field, and I believe that I can be an asset to your practice as an independent contractor.

The doctors I currently work with have seen the positive results that Autologous Serum Tears have had on their patients. I perform my services as a “clean procedure” and have zero instances of contamination and so many happy clients who were previously at the “end of their rope” with their dry eye complaints. I work in offices with a private template or provide in-home services for convenience and privacy for patients with special circumstances.

Serum tears are often a long-term therapy, and it is important that patients are aware that they may have some initial comfort-related improvement in their symptoms. The real testament comes when the provider examines their corneal inflammation under the slit lamp and, over time, will see decreases in epithelial defects and, sometimes, improvements in visual acuity!
The instructions I provide to patients include clear directions to contact the office if they experience unrelated symptoms including flashes of light, floaters, shadows, wavy lines in vision or tunnel vision. These symptoms will never be a result of using serum tears, and patients are urged to contact the provider with these complaints, as it will be an unrelated complication of another underlying disease.
-
As a matter of science, I encourage these patients to “not give up” on their therapy if they say they see no improvements. It takes patients years to become dry eye sufferers and for serum tears it should be understood that dry eye disease won’t be erased in a 6-month treatment plan. The benefit in using serum is the lack of chemically manufactured drops which come with many side effects of their own. Autologous Serum Tears are natural and so beneficial to the healing process.
FACTS
There are over 30 million dry eye sufferers in the US alone.
Women are 80% more likely to develop dry eye problems as they age, but men with low testosterone also feel the effects of dry eye disease. Menopausal, diabetic, arthritic and elderly patients can greatly benefit from the boost that AST provides
Patients who are post-op Lasik, PRK, PKP, cataract and glaucoma surgery have a higher awareness of dry eyes. Patients pre-treated with AST prior to corneal procedures have substantially better results following their procedures (when they present with dry eyes prior to surgery) and better healing rates
Using computers, tablets, smart phones and e-readers are becoming mainstream, and video display terminal syndrome is a growing concern
Glaucoma patients using PGA therapy have problems with dryness, redness and discoloration of the skin around the eyes, and AST can reduce these side-effects
Meibomian gland dysfunction therapies requiring mechanical gland stimulation (i.e., Lipiflow and IPL) can increase the symptoms of dry eyes immediately following treatment and patients would benefit from the added healing that AST provides
AST can be used in conjunction with all other therapies without contraindication and offers a 5-x healing from the properties already present in our natural tear film— “SUPER DROPS”!!
I am happy to perform in office or at home calls for your patients, rain or shine! **Distances over 50 miles from start point will have additional surcharge**
